Gardening is, in my opinion, one of the most rewarding hobbies you can take up. It’s easy to get started — but there are a few essential gardening tools and accessories that will make your life so much easier. After years of trial and error in my own garden, I’ve found a few tried-and-true items I recommend — plus a few just because they’re cute! 🌱

Of course, you need soil, seeds, and pots. But these extras will make your time in the garden even more enjoyable and efficient.

Garden Accessories

First up: cute and functional gardening accessories!
Ever wander around your garden wishing you had more hands? This gardening apron is the perfect solution — it’s cute and practical, with plenty of pockets to hold your shears, seeds, and plant markers for quick access.

Spending hours outside means you need sun protection. This straw gardening hat keeps you shaded while adding a stylish touch to your outfit.

And don’t forget footwear — you’ll definitely want waterproof garden boots, especially during those early spring, muddy days. Trust me, flip-flops don’t pair well with a shovel.

For extra comfort (and to protect your hands), I love these gardening gloves. They’re durable and cute!

Best Tools for Watering Your Garden

Watering is one of the most important parts of gardening — and there are a few tools that can make it much easier.

Starting with hand watering is great, but over time, you’ll want to automate where you can. For larger gardens, consider setting up a drip irrigation system. For individual plants, ollas — ancient clay watering devices — work beautifully by delivering water right to the roots.

Another great low-cost hack: use watering spikes with a wine bottle or water bottle to slowly water your plants while you’re away.

Every gardener needs a good watering can — and this galvanized one holds a lot without being too heavy. Pair it with a reliable garden hose and a multi-function hose nozzle that offers different spray settings (bonus points for ones with a swivel function for easier use!).

Best Pots for Container Gardening

Don’t have much space? Container gardening is ideal for renters, balcony gardeners, or anyone with limited growing areas.

If you’re growing vegetables, fabric grow bags are fantastic. They allow great airflow to the roots, promoting healthy plant growth. (Just remember, fabric pots dry out faster than in-ground planting, so pair them with watering spikes or ollas!)

For a more decorative look, especially for your front porch or patio, check out these lightweight Veradek outdoor planters. They give a chic, ceramic look without the heavy lifting.

You’ll also need plenty of nursery pots for seed starting and for transplanting your seedlings. It’s always a good idea to have extras on hand!

Best Soil & Fertilizers for Garden Success

Healthy soil is the foundation of a thriving garden. 🌿

Beyond quality soil, organic fertilizers are a key part of getting bigger harvests and healthier plants.

For general garden health, I use Gaia Green All Purpose Fertilizer on seedlings and Gaia Green Power Bloom for flowering plants. Both are organic and work wonders on soil health.

I also love using Marphyl Organic Liquid Fertilizer, especially for seedlings and houseplants. It’s packed with nitrogen and micronutrients, making it a great boost for green, leafy growth.

Want to supercharge your soil biology? Add mycorrhizal inoculant when planting. These beneficial fungi create a symbiotic relationship with plant roots, helping them absorb more nutrients and water from the soil.

Other must-haves:

  • Blood Meal for a nitrogen boost
  • Bone Meal for phosphorus, perfect for strong root development
